We worked with Urban Habitats two years ago in order to undergo a major landscaping to our backyard. In spite of running into obstacles, Urban Habitats created a beautiful, tranquil and soothing environment that we enjoy tremendously to this day. Lorraine’s professionalism, knowledge and work quality are second to none in Victoria, and all deadlines were met within the stated budget. My neighbour was so impressed by her work that he hired her to undertake a significant landscaping project to both his front and back yards.

It has been two years since we hired Urban Habitats to landscape our back yard and this year we hired them to landscape our front yard. The results have once again been tremendous. I would most highly recommend them to anyone undergoing a major or minor landscaping project. Lorraine’s vision is superb and Cam’s work extremely meticulous. They are simply the best of the best.

Lorraine is an artist who uses plants as her medium. In the space of a week, she and her crew transformed my front yard from grass and dirt to an oasis of colour and texture that immediately became home to hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Although I wasn’t clear on exactly what I wanted for this space, Lorraine took the time to ask questions and listen carefully and was able to create the garden that I didn’t know I had been wishing for! I appreciated her attention to detail, willingness to work within my budget, and professionalism. I am also in awe of her to ability to name every plant imaginable – in Latin, no less. Lorraine is a truly gifted landscaper; I highly recommend her services.

We moved into our house in 2005 and became the not-so-thrilled owners of two dismal outside spaces, the front and back yards. The patchy grass was more moss than grass and the thin dry soil didn’t even support weeds - the pine trees had seen to that! The front garden was an overgrown mess, boggy at the lower end of the slope (more moss) and separated from our immediate neighbours by a tall but straggly hedge.
Deeply discouraged but feeling impelled to `do something’ I went to a local garden centre in the hope of being given the name of a reputable landscape professional. The lady behind the counter took a handful of cards off the pin board and laid them before me - how could I choose? Her index finger was lightly tapping one card in particular and so I said “maybe I’ll give this person a call”. This was the happy point in our garden story when Lorraine Locherty and her company `Urban Habitats’ entered our lives. She came for an hour’s consultation and stayed for two (but still only charged for one). She was enthused by the challenge and talked of the site’s topography giving it real potential and we privately joked, “whatever she’s on, we’ll have the same” as we really couldn’t see any potential at all.
Our `vision’ for the front yard was simple – get rid of everything and start over – with a path to the front door and lots of lavender.
Her team, all qualified horticultural professionals were as enthused by our project as we were and always came when they said they would come and worked respectfully with the other landscape professionals.`
The project took about four months but as it had begun late in the year there were inevitable weather delays. At one point the ground was frozen but Peter the carpenter carried on regardless and our magnificent deck grew even as the frozen ground had halted the business of landscaping.
Lorraine and her company Urban Habitats were a delight to work with. Lorraine became a friend and to this day delights in visiting our garden of friendship.

I hired Lorraine Locherty of Urban Habitats to transform my weed-riddled property into a Mediterranean garden. Once we established what would work, Lorraine and her stellar crew got to work replacing old sod with soil and planting new shrubs and ornamental grasses. Lorraine proved to be a hands-on project manager as well as designer as she planted along with the crew. During that time she answered questions I had and gave sound advice such as installing an irrigation system. Someone who recommended Lorraine to me described her as professional and ethical which I found to be true. My exquisite garden will enhance my property and give me pleasure for many years to come.

Lorraine is a very knowledgeable and professional designer. We really appreciated her hands on approach, creative design ideas, flexibility and willingness to spend time with us, taking in and responding to our specific needs. Her willingness to respond to specific considerations such as budget and space restrictions was much appreciated. Her recommendations for dealing with hard scape challenges and her plant choices were creative and beautiful. We found Lorraine a pleasure to work with and are very pleased with the end result.

Lorraine Locherty of Urban Habitats is an amazing designer, who is intuitive, creative, and innovative. She took the time and care to listen to me and to work with me not only in the creation of my 1/3 acre garden but also in the selection of colors and furnishings in the interior of my home. In every aspect she has created a living space for me, which is peaceful and inspiring, comfortable and uplifting - a home, an oasis, a sanctuary.
People love working with Lorraine because her vision is clear, her direction is specific and precise and her appreciation is generous, encouraging, and inclusive. My garden has been photographed for Canadian Living Magazine and photos of the interior have been shown in several local publications. I am grateful to Lorraine each and every day. Her artistic gifts have enriched my life in immeasurable ways. Our ongoing collaboration is a true joy.
