Burgundy toned penstemon, towering canna lilies and the electric blue of Russian sage create visual fireworks in this sunny raised planter, above. Below: spectacular ornamental grasses and ground covers give a tired Victoria heritage home a new look. This drought tolerant, deer proof front yard features a gravel patio, lattice screens and an herb garden. The work was done four months before this photo was taken. The makeover includes trim and front door painting, rebuilt front stairs and lattice panels below the veranda.
A paint job, rebuilt stairs, lattice and a dynamic garden give this heritage home some much needed curb appeal. Euphorbia, snapdragons, and billowing drifts of feather grass adorn the original rock wall, circa 1904. The front door was painted black.
Lavender, sage, rosemary and oregano are some of the vibrant perennials brightening the garden. The crumbling staircase was repaired and features black slate tiles and a new cap made from heavy fir planks with black stain
Victoria BC landscape design and construction information that will bring your garden to life.
“Lorraine is an artist who uses plants as her medium. In the space of a week, she and her crew transformed my front yard from grass and dirt to an oasis of colour and texture that immediately became home to hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Although I wasn’t clear on exactly what I wanted for this space, Lorraine took the time to ask questions and listen carefully and was able to create the garden that I didn’t know I had been wishing for! I appreciated her attention to detail, willingness to work within my budget, and professionalism. I am also in awe of her to ability to name every plant imaginable – in Latin, no less. Lorraine is a truly gifted landscaper; I highly recommend her services. ”
